On the occasion of the 75th edition of the event, a particularly significant anniversary – the Gran Premio della Liberazione is the second longest-running sporting event in the capital – Claudio Terenzi, president of the Organizing Committee, is working on a project that goes beyond the competitive race, proposing a festival dedicated to two wheels and set up over 3 days.
The idea is to take advantage of the traditional date of April 25th, which in 2022 will fall on a Monday, to organize a long weekend dedicated to sport.
Saturday will be dedicated to the Bike4Fun, a non-competitive ecological ride to discover the Appia Antica Archaeological Park, created with the idea of involving the city and its inhabitants more, to contribute to the development of a culture of sustainable mobility in the capital and spread a message of awareness on health and psycho-physical well-being through the use of bicycles.
Sunday will be the day for the youth categories: the Juniores and Allievi races already scheduled in 2021 are confirmed, to which will be added the competition for Esordienti and the Kids Race, trial gymkhanas to introduce the youngest to pedal-powered two wheels.
Great return of the Donne Elite race, absent from the program since 2018, previously won by the Italians Bastianelli and Paternoster, respectively world road champion in 2017 and gold at the 2021 World Championships in the elimination specialty.
All of this will be set up around the monumental complex of the Baths of Caracalla and the Nando Martellini Stadium, which will host a village, the Roma Bike Village, dedicated not only to two wheels but to the world of outdoor sports: entertainment, music, shows, test drives, and a food & beverage area enriched by craft beers and top-quality street food.
The agreement with the Lazio Volunteer Service Center is being finalized to allow the associations that are part of it to raise funds through the sale of Bike 4 Fun registrations.
Almost all available spots for teams in the various scheduled categories are sold out, and several requests for participation from abroad have already been received by the Organizing Committee for what is expected to be a special edition of the Rome Spring World Championship.
